I would be forever grateful if you could take the time to leave some comments and criticism (C&C) for my Masters Project. Have a scroll through the development blog; or navigate to specific Creature Designs or Environments using the links in the sidebar on the right; or take a look at a summary of the project so far here: Peer Review Session: Summary of Project.

Any comments will be extremely useful for the progress and write-up of my project. It would be really helpful if you could tell me what you like, what you think could be improved and any other general comments.

To leave your review just post a comment below. You can choose to post anonymously, but don't worry, all comments will be anonymous in my report anyway.

Thank you for your feedback!

  1. The initial sketches are full of life and energy - you display an excellent anatomical knowledge without the deadening effect that can come with its accurate portrayal. What was particularly pleasing to see was that this energy and sense of muscular and skeletal shape carried over into the later designs and is somehow 'felt' through the layers of armour and decoration. If I had a criticism it would be that the size and style of the armour would seem to be designed for the tigers to be mounted, whereas I got the impression that the tigers themselves are the central characters. Might a slightly more svelte protection be more in-keeping with the lithe grace of a great cat? Having said that, the dynamic of a decreasing encumbrance of armour through upgrades might be exciting, but I'm digressing into gameplay I suppose.

I love the traditional style backgrounds. I've no experience of Korean art but I have been bewitched by the gestural mode of representation - the delicate slight marks that somehow convey a world of meaning. Some of the pieces I would be happy to have framed on the wall in my house or pay to see in a gallery. It seems almost a shame that they are destined to be engine fodder! But what a beautiful game they will make. I hope that you get the chance to make it. I imagine something like Okami but with Korean folklore and the extra power and majesty that would come from being a tiger rather than a wolf.

I disagree with you about your red sun in the masked tiger drawing. I think the over-weighting of the sun gives the feeling of a late, heavy sun hanging in the sky, and of the way in which looking directly at the sun through any semi-transparent object will create the optical illusion of the object being consumed by the sun. It looks like a gateway to another world…
